Mississippi State Plumbing License Requirements

In the State of Mississippi Licenses are required for residential plumbers who perform over $10,000 of plumbing work. Commercial plumbers must be licensed if they perform over $50,000 of plumbing work. All plumbers are required to apply for the proper permits for each job. The Mississippi State Board of Contractors acts as the contractor licensing authority.

The Mississippi Plumbing license covers unlimited commercial and residential plumbing but does NOT cover fuel gas or boiler systems.

Requirements for a Plumbing Apprenticeship.

In Mississippi, individulas who aspire to become plumbers are not required to enroll in an apprenticeship program. There are however the tradeschools who do offer apprenticeship-like programs that are a good stepping stone for a future in the plumbing business.

Requirements for a Mississippi Plumbers License

Individuals looking to aquire a plumbers license in the State of Mississippi must meet certain requirements that are specific to the plumbing & construction trade. The state requires different licenses depending on whether you are performing residential or comercial projects. Each of these unique fields entails its own application process, state exams, and exam fees.

Mississippi Journeyman Plumber License Requirements

Becoming a licensed plumbing contractor in the State of Mississippi demands a few requirements similar to the surrounding states. New journeyman plumbers will have to fill out the application specific to commercial or residential contracting. Mississippi Plumbing Exam Requirements

The fee for the exam is $120 and a minimum score of 70% is required the pass. The Mississippi plumbing exam consists of 70 questions and there is a time limit of 3 hours to complete the exam. Some of the topics covered on the exam are safety, general plumbing regulations, cleanouts, fixtures and equipment, water heaters, piping, valves, controls, water supply, hangers and supports, drain, waste and vents, backflow, traps and interceptors, develop length, isometric analysis, and joints and connections.

A Mississippi Law and Business Management exam is required for all contracting jobs.

PSI Exams administers the Mississippi plumber contractor exams. The Mississippi plumber exam has two sections, the business & law examination and the plumbing examination. Applications will be reviewed for approval for testing as soon as they are received.
