To work as a plumber in the State of Indiana a plumbing license from the Indiana Plumbing Commission is required. The Plumbing Commission has outsourced the plumbing exam for journeyman plumbers and plumbing contractors license to the International Code Council ICC.
State of Indiana Plumbing License Requirements
For an Apprentice Certification there are no exams required. All that is needed is a complete registration form and the application fee.
For a Journeyman Plumbing License or a Plumbing Contractor License you must first take and pass the exams.
Journeyman Plumbers License Requirements
- Applicants require to have had at least 4 years of plumbing training in an apprenticeship.
- Applicants need at least 4 years (6,400 hours) plumbing work experience.
- Applicants must pass the written exam from the ICC.
The application fee for an Indiana journeyman plumbing exam is $30.00 and the fee for the journeyman plumbers license is $15.00 or $30.00 depending on whether you get it in an even or odd numbered year.
Plumbing Contractor License Requirements
- Applicants require to have had at least 4 years of plumbing training in an apprenticeship.
- Applicants need at least 4 years (6,400 hours) plumbing work experience.
- Applicants must pass the written plumbing exam from the ICC that covers drainage and sewage systems.
The application fee for an Indiana plumbing contractors exam is $50.00 and the fee for the plumbing contractors license is $50.00 or $100.00 depending on whether you get it in an even or odd numbered year.
