Numi ToiletOf the 3,162 applications entered in the 2011 Good Design Award, the KOHLER Numi toilet was selected as 1 of 62 house fixtures product recipients of the prestigious award. Organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), the Good Design Award is a comprehensive program for the evaluation and encouragement of design. JDP receives approximately 3,000 submissions from more than 1,000 companies and designers from inside / outside of Japan every year. These designs are screened by about 60 design experts, who select and recommend those designs worthy of the Good Design Awards. With a long history stretching back more than 50 years, the present-day Good Design Award is given to design that enriches everyday life and is inspiring with an outstanding quality.

iF Product Design Award 2012

For 58 years, the iF product design award has been an internationally recognized label for award-winning design and the iF brand has become a symbol for outstanding achievements in design. Out of 2,923 entries, Numi was selected as the recipient of the renowned iF Awards 2012 for product design, under the bathroom / wellness category.

There are altogether 16 different categories for the iF product design award 2012. In selecting the recipients for the various categories, the jury considered criteria such as design quality, finish, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental impact, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of intended use, safety, brand value and branding and aspects of universal design. Well known for its strict criterion when it comes to evaluating a product’s design, the judges of the iF award are experts and top designers from countries such as the UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, Singapore and China.

Launched in 2011, Numi is a celebration of the most technologically inspired experience in personal convenience. Adopting legendary architect Mies van der Rohe’s “Less is more” mantra, the Kohler design team took a minimalist approach to Numi’s creation, arranging complex technological functions internally within a limited space, all while presenting extreme simplicity externally. The result: a figment of beauty and geometry with high attention to detail, featuring a series of intersecting planes.
